Group rides on Burnaby Mountain

Unfortunately, the BMBA as an organization does not organize group rides for many reasons, one of which is that we are more an advocacy group than a riding club. However, this is not to say that BMBA web site users cannot organize group rides on their own. So, if you are looking for a group to ride with, or a group looking for more people, then this is the place to do it.

Group rides on Burnaby Mountain

Phelonius's picture

There is a Thursday night ride with the original members of the Burnaby Mountain Bike Club. Every Thursday, pretty much rain or shine all year long.
Meet at Greystoke Village parking lot (by the Hop and Vine Pub) at 6:45, the group leaves promptly at 7pm. Usually they ride up the western side of the mountain and then do a quick run of Nicholes.
The guy that leads the ride was one of the original builders of Nicholes trail.
If you show up, ask for Erik.

Group rides on Burnaby Mountain

Ride with Drew (thats me)

7:30pm Wednesdays. Meet @ the parking area on North Rd.

We ride year round (rain, snow, etc... 1year anniversary coming up) and there are rarely less then 4-5 people out (low of one, high of 14).

Lower trails, up Joe's, Down Mel's and Nicole's and then back to the cars.

All skill levels welcome (as long as you are comfortable on Nicole's and can make it up Joe's/Trans-Can... how you make it to the top- ride, hike, crawl- is your problem). By the same extent, if you are fast then be prepared for the fact that lots of newer riders come along.

*edit: 90% of the time @ SFU I ride my fully rigid B-1 (can't miss in, HUGE green and black aluminum Downtube w/ skinny Peyto fork, 10% of the time I ride my Balfa 2-step in red)

We also ride the Shore/Burke/Woodlot every weekend and occasionally due Shore rides during the week. If you are interested in those rides PM me.

HEEEEEEE!

I'm up there lots as well. Either on a gold Kona Stuff hardtail or on my Silver 02 Norco Shore (blue fullface helmet). I'd be up for group rides as soon as the weather improves, for now it's all about powder up in them mountains...

Are there group rides still happening up there?

The Thursday night ride that Phelonius mentions is still going strong. I saw a big group gathering when I rode by the Hop and Vine just before 7:00 pm a couple of Thursdays ago.

I'm new to Burnaby, and I am looking for people to ride with. I'm somewhat of a beginner but I feel like I can hold my own. (I'm just not into big drops and jumps). I'm going to BCIT and I don't know anybody to ride with. It would be great to find some people that want to ride and would be willing to show me around the Burnaby mountain trails. Are there any group rides going on? If you read this and you are into riding let me know. I want to get up as much as possible and I dont have a car, so Burnaby mountain is the closest for me. Hope to hear from someone.
Craig.

Wednesday night rides

Does this group still ride Wednesday evenings? I've followed someone around this loop once, but am not sure I could find my own way around. So I don't get lost on the trails, I'd love to ride them with a group first.

If there is a group ride, I'd love to tag along! Please let me know: jdesbrisay(at)yahoo.ca

Cheers,

Julie
