rogue trail building

We were riding Gear Jammer today, when one of our group decided to show take a look down that offshoot trail that head to the right (upper cut? I've never been there before so I'm not sure). It looks like that was a big stepup onto a rock there at one time. Anyways we're checking it out and we see 3 trees freshly chopped down. The stumps were about 2-3 feet high. We look up the trail and see a few young guys swinging a maddock or something like that. There looked to be a least a couple of more trees chopped down up the hill a bit. I hollered up at them asking if they worked with the BMBA or the city and they said no. I hollered that what they were doing was illegal and jeopardizes the entire mountain for trail building. They said they didn't know that. I said, well you do now so stop, blah, blah, blah.

Anyways, there's a few fresh cut trees laying down there and it looks pretty bad.

Well if the kids had somewhere to ride offering the type of stunts they were looking for...
I know the barnet skills park is being made/ completed?? But no information has been released on its opening date.

That area used to be a trail known as "911". It was taken down by the city about 5 years ago, but the step up remains and is often being rebuilt/taken down. It sounds as if those kids were cutting down trees to build stunts. I do not agree with this, but i was in the same predicament a couple years ago. It's tough for kids to find a challenging spot to ride around here when they dont have drivers licenses, so they take it upon themselves to build their own stunts nearby. Comprendo?

I understand, I just think it's about the laziest thing I've read.

One of the premiere builders on Eagle started working on the mountain when he was 15, pedaling from home on Como Lake all the way up, working all day then riding home. Now he pretty much rules the mountain.

Well thats just dandy, we cant't all be heros here Dave.
It's about REASONABLY assessing the situation. By the way, the city is quite aware of the illigal trail building, although i would suppose we have nothing to worry about now that you have taken care of those young boys!

I've helped out with 2 trail-days at SFU and really enjoyed it. I think organized trail building is where it's at. However...
I was coming down Nicoles today and the this very question of rogue trail building arose in my head. Mainly because the same section of trail that I find naturally wants to spit you out to the left, turns right. I usually stop for a sec, shrug it off and keep going. But today I thought to myself 'If I wanted to make my trail dreams a reality, what steps do I take?' Yes it's ironic that I missed the Feb. 25th AGM, but what are the 'rules'? I was thinking I'd bring my camera next ride and take a bunch of pics of what exists at this section of Nicoles and what I'm proposing. And I'm not asking for a 10'gap jump.
