Bike store reviews.
First off, i figured it might be handy to have a list of all the bikes stores in the area around SFU. I don't know the neighbourhood all that well, so i hope some of you can contribute. The only bike store i know of in the immediate area is CAP's bikestore in sapperton. They've always been decent there.. although sometimes i feel like prices are a bit high.
I'm looking to get a full tuneup for my ride and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with CAP's service department. Did they do a good job? Was it worth the money you spent? if you get tuneups somewhere else, i'd like to hear about it.
btw... i know most of you probably do most of your own maintenance work. I'm all for that aswell, but i don't have the means for things like bleeding my brakelines and the like, so a couple times a year i like to go get me a good solid professional tuneup.
thoughts?

I have never had my bikes
I have never had my bikes tuned up from caps. The brentwood caps is located closest to where I live, and I find they have absolutely no idea what the hell they are talking about. I always buy, and have my bikes fixed at John Henry Bikes just over the bridge in north van. Cove also offers good service.

Bike Servicing
Check out Secret Cycles in Coquitlam (on the Barnet in Coquitlam just behind Anducci's - www.secretcycles.ca). Ok, I'm a bit biased as I'm one of the owners but our head mechanic has over 17 years experience and has a very good rep for meticulous work. Call first though as our mechanics are in demand so you have to set up an appointment in advance.
Bike Stores around Bby Mtn
I bought my SX Trail @ Caps - Sapperton. You get 1 year free service with a new bike, so I've had them adjust a couple of things for me. I was initially kind of concerned when I learned that their head mech moved on as he did a GREAT job building my bike. At this point I'm not sure if I will use them after the 1st year.
There is Sharpey's Cycle in North Burnaby ( very close to Bby Mtn ). I don't have any experience with them.
Secret Cycle in Coquitlam is pretty close too. I think that you can make an appointment to get your bike serviced.
There is also Overtime Sports in south Coquitlam. Good prices on parts and service, but they get busy and you may have to wait to get your bike serviced.
For me (for anything I can't do myself), I think I'll try Secret Cycle. The head mech has been around a long time and I really like the fact that my bike won't have to be out of service for an indeterminant amount of time.

Tune Ups
I have used Steve at Atomic Bike Shop a few times and had good experience. It's a bit further away though on West 6th close to Granville.
Caps Westwood Cycle and CWC at Rocky Point
Hi folks,
Not so much a review as a heads up since I work at these stores.
FYI most of the Caps stores are no longer affiliated or a chain like they were years ago. The stores are all still run by the Hobbis family, the original Cap's sons. As far as I know only Caps westwood and rocky point are affiliated as they are both owned by Glenn and his wife Kelly. The Rocky Point Store is in the old AKA location and carries Giant bicycles.
At Westwood our senior mechanic has over 10 years experience, our service manager has over 15 years experience including wrenching on pro mtb teams for Foes and Marin. I came back to the bike industry 2 months ago and have 7 years previous experience as a warranty and tech rep for Norco and Syncros, 3 years experience in QC at Rocky Mountain and 20 years mtb riding and maintenance experience.
This summer the Westwood service department has been so busy it has taken 1 to 2 weeks to get an appointment unless it is a free service on bikes in the first year. Those get done within 48 hrs. Rocky Point can turn jobs over faster, probably within 1 to 3 days bearing in mind the RP location is closed Tuesday and Wednesday while Westwood is open 7 days a week.
