A good loop, and a new member.

Hi BMBA,

Great website... love the new look.. i figured what better time to register than to co-inside with this slick new interface?

Anyways, i'm a Burnaby Local living near lougheed mall. I ride an '07 NORCO Six Two which i am VERY pleased with. This is my first REAL mountain bike and it has really taken my riding and courage to new levels.  I always enjoy riding SFU mountain. Just discovered northroad trail a couple weekends ago....good times!

Have yet to check out the Barnett skills park.. Also wanted to take a minute to thank all those from this website who were involved in it's creation. I think it's great to see my tax dollars going to such a noble cause. I can't wait to check it out.

Now if anyone can offer some suggestions, i'm looking for a good bike loop i can do on any given weekday, ideally with my dog.  He's a fit 2year old chocolate lab who loves to run alongside/behind me as i bike. I like being able to give him a proper workout after a workday. The best places i've found for this is Buntzen Lake academy trail/fire road.  It's a fun trail and the dog enjoys it, but the DH is too breif given the amount of work i put into getting up hill and overall, i find the loop that i do to be a little short.

Robert burnaby park has some decent hiking/biking trails, but much of it is overgrown, so there's alot of stopping/lifting the bike over fallen logs which are annoying more for the bikers than the hikers.  Also, i get the impression that the hiker contingent at Robert Burnaby park don't appreceate us mountain bikers.

Does anyone else here ride Robert Burnaby? I've found some pretty serious jumps built up in the center of the park, but i rarely see people riding.

If anyone can reccomend a good 5-10km loop somewhere in the neighbourhood, where dogs off leash are welcome, i would certainly appreceate it.

Thanks!

Burnaby Mtn Loops

Nice bike - for me it was a toss-up between the six and the  sx trail - i got the sx trail. A friend has the six and he loves it as well.

Burnaby Mtn has great XC loops! My favorite is riding up North road trail followed by Dead Moped, Joes/Trans-Canada, then accross the university to access the main trail head. Once at the trail head go down Mels followed by Nicoles ( a tougher XC/DH trail ) or stay on Mels until Gear Jammer. You can also ride Mels back to the Trans-Canada trail.

Take a look at the trail map to discover other loops. Generally any loop is from 1Hr to 1.5 Hrs.

Cheers!

Gotta Ride!

Hot bike! The SX Trail was

Hot bike!

The SX Trail was what i really wanted, but as you probably already know, the pricepoint difference between these two bikes is pretty substantial.

So now i'm jealous of your sx trail. Hah.. who am i kidding, i'm jealous of all the SXtrails i see ride by. I still long for one.

Indeed, SFU mountain has alot to offer.

Where the dog is concerned, and perhaps myself aswell, some more XC stuff wouldn't be all that bad. It would be nice to get a solid XC loop for training... something where i can worry more about pace than doing one big mondo uphill climb, followed by a quick DH.   I've been yearning for a good solid 5km XC loop where my dog and i can both go to get some much needed excercise.

Does anyone else here have a dog that they bring along on rides?

is there a bad stigma regarding dogs on SFU trails or are people pretty cool about it?

good loops

I can recomend a number of good loops for you and your lab.

1 If your going all the way out to Bunzen lake there is a great loop that you can do with a nice bit of XC/DH involved but there is a bit of road riding involved as well to close the loop. Here is a link for the trail network around Buntzen lake.

Now if you go a little further up the road to Belcarra there is a net work of trails there as well. If you head up the road towards the Burrard Thermal plant, you will come to an area that the MOTO trials guys use. There are trails in around that area.

Now if you want something closer to home there are plentyof loops on SFU that you can do, so many it would be difficult to explain them all. I have been ridding SFU trails for al most 20 years now and have tide together a  number of different loops. So depending on your fitness and how much you LOVE to climb for the descent, its all good loops.  Top of mind if you are comeing from Louheed mall area, you could start your ride from  the Community Centre and follow the HYDRO POWER line acces road that leads right up to Jims Jungle and you can enter the SFU trail net work there. Then just follow you nose and see how lost you can get.

Happy Trails
