Dead Moped Trail Day
After four years of meetings and hard work by a handful of volunteers, the BMBA, with the support of the City of Burnaby, had it's first official trail day on Burnaby Mountain last Saturday. A total of 26 volunteers showed up early Saturday morning at the "Playground" at the end of North Road eager to get working on Dead Moped. The plan was to remove an existing series of wooden ladders and replace them with a new 60' ladder bridge and required rock armoring.
The City of Burnaby supplied all the wood, nails and chainsaw power for the day. Roughly 80% of wood material was prepared off site by the BMBA. including 160+ rungs which were delivered in the morning. We also fabricated rungs from material downed by the recent storm. The weather seemed to be on our side for the most part, that is to say that some rain helped cool us down a bit when we were hauling rocks and driving nails and the sun came out once the burgers were ready for lunch. Lunch and prizes for all the volunteers was provided by Cap's Bicycle Shop in New Westminster. Without the support of local bike stores, businesses and donations, none of the work the BMBA does would be possible.
The BMBA would like to thank all the volunteers that attended, the City of Burnaby, and Cap's Bicycle shop for making this trail day a complete success and we look forward to seeing you at the Nicole's Trail day on August 11th.
I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story...
